“The former Basketball Wives star pleaded guilty to 15 felonies, including 5 counts of misuse of a Social Security number, 4 counts of bank fraud, 3 counts of wire fraud, and 3 counts of making false IRS statements, the U.S.”
Williams’ attorney, Beau Brindley, said:
“Brittish Williams was punished today, not for fraud, but for her celebrity. The Court chose to punish her harshly due to her public status, rather than treating similarly situated defendants equally.”
Brindley said:
“Ms. Williams’s success is not a crime subject to an enhanced sentence. And we will challenge this sentence through every legal means available.”
In addition to the four-year prison sentence, Williams, 33, will be supervised five years after her release and was ordered to pay $564,069 in restitution.
