TOMS donates shoes to children in need.

Fusing fashion creativity with humanitarian aid, TOMS Shoes for Tomorrow will come to the Clemson University campus on Oct. 21. Pioneering a unique way of providing footwear for children who live in developing nations throughout the world, TOMS' One for One project promises to donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair that is purchased by the public.

Over the past two years, Clemson University and the city of Clemson have embarked on a mission to improve their environmental impacts and to keep the campus clean. The Solid Green Campaign at Clemson has been working to make these efforts noticeable while showing the University and city that being environmentally responsible requires a group effort.

CUSG derecognizes clubs

After 52 student organizations missed a mandatory meeting in early Sept., Clemson University's undergraduate student government has derecognized 41 of the groups. The meeting's coordinator Patrick Becker, a senior serving his first term in the Cabinet of Organizations, ultimately made this decision after representatives from these groups failed to attend.

From Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 2, Clemson University will host the conference for the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH). The SAACURH makes up the regional branch of the largest student-run organization in the world, the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH).

TAPS wins

Yearbook named best in nation for fourth year in a row.

Clemson University's TAPS yearbook continues its tradition of success after being named the nation's best collegiate publication for the fourth year in a row. In addition to being awarded first place with special merit by the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA), the 2007-2008 TAPS edition received ASPA's honor of Most Outstanding University Yearbook.

The community of Clemson has organized a free screening of "Darius Goes West" on Oct. 8, a documentary about a 19 year-old who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Before the film, there will be a chance to meet and talk with Weems in the Catherine J.

Wheels for the disabled

Clemson University Student Disability Services (SDS), Council on Diversity Affairs (CODA) and Housing have collaborated to provide rentable, motorized scooters for students who are temporarily disabled. A new convenience, the scooters can be ridden into classrooms and onto CAT buses.

Eye on Crime

This week's eye on crime comes from Texas, where the trial of a Houston man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and grilling her remains began Sept. 29. Timothy Wayne Shepherd, 28, is alleged of killing Tynesha Stewart in March of 2007 while she was home on spring break from Texas A&M University.

The Calhoun Honors College is now accepting applications for Spring 2009 membership. Applicants must have completed at least one full-time semester of 12 or more credit hours at Clemson, possess a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have at least four remaining semesters at Clemson as of Dec.
