I found last week’s episode of “Criminal Minds†particularly engaging. While the constant use of vampires on television is becoming worn out quickly, it was nice to see a show that showed the disturbing side of vampirism, instead of the glorified fad that pop culture has made it into recently. To shortly sum up the episode: a tortured singer called Dante who dresses up as a vampire (Gavin Rossdale) has gone into a downward spiral of drugs when his manager is forcing him to sell records at the expense of his musical freedom.
When four girls are found dead, with their blood drained through holes in their throats and with Facebook shrines to Dante, the (Behavioral Analysis Unit) BAU goes to his house to ask him some questions and finds the latest victim’s car. Dante is arrested and taken back to the interrogation room, but doesn’t fit the profile that the BAU has constructed. When JJ goes to visit the home of the latest victim’s best friend, she finds a schizophrenic being coerced by Dante’s manager to exsanguinate women and store their blood, so that she can live among the undead with him forever.
Luckily the BAU show up in time to save JJ and unveil the manager’s plot to increase the sales of Dante’s new record by murdering women and writing the name of the record on their arms in blood. Prentiss reveals the dark plan to Dante, who quietly offers to help both his schizophrenic fan and his manager in any way possible and then leaves, asking Prentiss when just making music stopped being enough.
While it was an extremely disturbing episode, it was touching as well, offering a glimpse into the problems faced by performers as well as the more disturbing side of hero worship and the recent cultural obsession with vampires. Rossdale’s performance was surprisingly multi-dimensional, and it’s a great episode to watch if you missed last week’s episodes.
The three “CSI†shows also had an interesting development by making one episode out of all “CSI,†“CSI: Miami†and “CSI: NY.†The three-part crossover had Ray Langston (Laurence Fishbourne) first guest starring on “CSI: Miami,†then “CSI: NY†and finally finishing the series in “CSI.†The three crime labs work together to save a pregnant young girl who had been kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, and I can’t really say how well it ends, because I haven’t gotten to see the final episode yet, but everyone I asked said it was a great episode.
Those are the main highlights for the week (I feel that I should also mention that “The Big Bang Theory†also had a great episode), and all the commercials have me looking forward to the holiday episodes.
